4 Day Breaks

Our 4 Day Walks comprise 4 different daily self-led walks (we provide the necessary information and advice) which, depending on whether you change accommodation during your break or not, you can do in whatever order you wish.

We have a selection of 4 day walks and rambles with either one or two accommodation bases in the Easy/Moderate walks category. They are designed for those who may have limited time available for a walking tour or who may wish to undertake some other activity during a longer break, either within our area or outwith e.g. a city break to Glasgow or Edinburgh. Extra days walking or accommodation can be added if required.

Further information on the tours available are shown below. We also arrange 4 day tailor made tours.

Four day tours comprise 4 nights accommodation, i.e. accommodation on the night before the tour starts, and the next 3 nights. Accommodation can also be arranged after the last walking day if required.

dumfries & galloway

We normally meet walkers at the first night's accommodation, provide the tour information pack and go over the tour itinerary.

Arrival Walk/Stroll
Depending on arrival time in Castle Douglas on the day before the tour starts, we can suggest a self-led afternoon or evening stroll on a new walk to acclimatise to the area by Carlingwark loch or to the nearby iconic Threave Castle. The ruined castle is situated 2 miles out of town on an island in the River Dee. It is operated by Historic Scotland and by ringing the bell, the boatman will take you over to the island where the castle imposes itself on the Galloway skyline.

We offer 12 Four Day Walking Breaks:

1. Snapshot of Scotland - 7 options.
2. Galloway Forest Park Walks - 2 options
3. Food and Drink Tours - 3 options

1. Snapshot of Scotland Tours - a walking break 'snapshot' experience of our area in 4 days.

We have a total of seven different 'Snapshot of Scotland' Walking Breaks. They are specifically designed to give walkers the experience of different types of typical Scottish terrain i.e. coast, countryside, woodland and some easy hills - all as far as possible within a 4 day walking break.
For accommodation, we offer the choice to stay for 4 days in and around our base at Castle Douglas, or stay just 2 days there with another 2 days in one of six other towns or areas.

The Snapshot of Scotland page outlines the 7 different walking break options for your consideration.

2. Galloway Forest Park Walks - to get away from it all.

The Galloway Forest Park is the largest forest park in Britain, covering over 300 square miles of spectacular landscape. The terrain includes forest, ancient woodland, moorland and lochs, all rising towards the rugged peaks of the granite Galloway Hills where panoramic views are in abundance.

We have put together two 4 day walks which cover many of the features of the Forest Park. The area is relatively undiscovered with the walks having the ingredient of relative peace and quiet compared to many of the other popular and over-crowded walking and outdoor areas of the UK.

Tour 1 has accommodation is in Gatehouse of Fleet and Newton Stewart for two days each or for 4 days in Gatehouse if preferred.
Tour 2 has accommodation in The Glenkens area and Newton Stewart for two days each or in The Glenkens for 4 days if preferred.
The Galloway Forest Park walks page outlines the 2 different walk options for your consideration.

3. Food and Drink Tours - recommending tea rooms, pubs hotels and restaurants during or after each day's walk.

Galloway has a rich heritage of food and drink establishments. Castle Douglas, our base, is themed as a 'food town' due to its food related businesses as well as a large number of independent shops which make it a popular destination in its own right.

Our knowledge extends to what we think are the best tea rooms, pubs, hotels/restaurants for refreshments either during or at the end of your day's walking, as well as food related experience places of interest such as the award winning Cream o' Galloway ice cream farm and visitor centre, Sulwath brewery and Bladnoch distillery.

We currently have three Food and Drink Tours,
1. Tasty Tea Rooms Four Day Walking Tour.
2. Pub Lunch Walking Tour.
3. Evening Meal Specials.

The Food and Drink walks page outlines the 3 different walk options for your consideration.
